Literature Review – Self-Assessment

Any group assignment can prove to be hard and the difficulty is exacerbated when groups are pre-assigned. I was lucky this time. Not only was I already friendly with the people in my class, but they were full of ideas, supportive, and helpful throughout the semester. The literature review was the first step into our group dynamic. I remember sifting through possible topics, feeling strongly about researching mold, reassessing the scope of our study, and compromising on all of our passions. It culminated in a pretty well written literature review that I feel accurately represents our interests and explores housing disparities on three fronts: internal structural issues, environmental contributors, and governmental impacts. The peer reviewers were very helpful in advising that we move the government section to the beginning of the writing to set up the rest of the material and help with minute changes in grammar, syntax, and tone. It was rewarding editing other groups’ work as well because I felt like I was able to help perfect their list of references using our newfound knowledge from our population health class and learning so much about a myriad of topics.
